Overview

My name is Marie. I live in an apartment provided by COTS in Detroit, MI. I have three children all preschool and kindergarten age. I have enrolled in classes at Henry Ford Community College. I am going for my associates degree and upon graduating want to get a job in the medical field. Until that happens, I'm looking for a part-time job because I'm struggling financially and am having a hard time getting the things that I need that will help me become independent and self-sufficient. Despite the many trials and setbacks that I have experienced in life, I continue to hold up my head and strive to be the best that I can be. I'm most proud of how much I have overcome in life and how strong I've become both mentally and emotionally.

My goal is to get my associates degree and eventually obtain a job in the medical field. With an education and a job, I will then be able to become independent of the COTS program and better provide for my children.

I need a laptop to assist with my schoolwork.

Meeting this need will help me because I am on a fixed income and cannot afford to purchase a laptop. With a laptop I will be able to complete my school work, study and do research as needed. I will also be able to search for and apply for various employment opportunities.

I met Marie when she applied for housing through the COTS Shelter Plus Care Program. I think meeting this need is important because it will assist Marie with completing her goal of obtaining her associates degree. Marie has been very cooperative with our housing program. She is also very proactive in working towards improving her life and becoming independent and self sufficient.
