Ms. Kat from Washington, DC

I have a job offer and I'm on my way to sustaining myself & family, but I need proper uniforms.

I need two full uniforms to start my new catering job. This includes a full tuxedo and a signature jacket.

My need and situation

Meeting this need will help me because once I am able to get these uniforms and start working I'll be able to provide a new life for me, my children and grandchildren. I will be able to provide a better lifestyle for them and spend more time with my grandchildren enjoy their childhood.

My current situation is that I have been unemployed for the past 6 years and taking care of my children and grandchildren the best I could. I knew I needed to get a job in order to continue helping to take care of them. I have always had a passion for cooking and was so lucky to hear about the Culinary Job Training program at DC Central Kitchen. I got accepted to the program and started in August. I will be graduating in November and have already been offered a job. I feel so accomplished by completing this program. I can not start working at my new job until I have these uniforms because they are required for all the events that I will be working.

I'm from Washington D.C. and I live with my children and grand children. Something interesting about me is that I am in love with my children and grandchildren and want to continue to learn how to prepare them healthy meals.

I'm most proud of finishing DC Central Kitchen's Culinary Job Training program and finding a job. I am a proud parent of 10 children and grandmother to 22 grandchildren. I think of myself mostly as a warior and a giving and loving mother and grandmother.

I have been working with Ms. Kat since she joined the N St. Village culinary job training team in August. I originally did her interview to get accepted into the program and saw the drive and passion that she had for the culinary industry. I have worked with her to help her bring out her confidence and claim a job. I think meeting this need is important because she needs these uniforms in order to start working. When she starts working she will not only continue to believe in herself but she will be able to reach self-sufficiency.
