My need
I live in the South Chicago area but need to get to many different places. I have just gotten a job doing homecare, and I have 4 different people, so right now I have to go to 4 different places on the bus. Some of the places I go are not by my house. Plus, I have to get my children home from school. Having my car working would make it much easier for me. I need my car repaired and the battery replaced. I could also take on additional clients and increase my income if my car was working.
I was able to get a job to better take care of my children and I will be working around my school schedule. I am taking certification classes for my degree in early childhood education. I need to have the flexibility to do both school and work and not be limited to where I can work if I don’t have a working car.
My situation
I was working several jobs. I was working as a security guard, at Home Depot, and as a receptionist at the Victory Center Senior Home in the neighborhood. I left there because I needed more time to go back to school to get my childcare license. I am almost finished getting that license but now need to be working at the same time to finish my degree.
I was looking for a job for a while before I found one. I even had a job offer doing security in Schaumberg, but could not take it because I didn't have a working car. Now I'm working, doing homecare, but I have to take several buses to get to the homes.
My car needs a new battery and has other electrical problems. If I can get it working, I can make it to work at different locations, and take my children where they need to go.

I have known Taylor for 2 years. She’s a single mom of 3 and has custody of a nephew, so she has 4 children. She is a domestic violence survivor and is striving to be a really good mother. She has gone back to school to get her degree in early childhood development. She also works security and as a caregiver, and many times her assignments not nearby so she needs transportation to get to these sites. She is working hard at her job to keep a roof over these children’s heads. Any assistance that she can get in getting her car repaired will help her maintain her housing for her family and will help her build a better future by completing her education.
