We mourn the loss of Benevolent team member Kyle Kehus. Gifts to help someone in need will honor his legacy.

Erica from Chicago, IL

Inspired by a family member to become a welder! I need welding gear to work.

To get a welding job, I need gear and bus passes. I also need to pay fees to get my driver's license back so that I can get to work.

My need and situation

I am a student at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. I am a woman looking to work in a non-traditional career. I do a lot of volunteer work to give back for the times that I have needed help. I have faced tough challenges and at one point was homeless but I have stuck to my goals and not given up. I am responsible and kind-hearted.

My goals are to finish the program and become another welder in my family. One of my family members was a welder and this inspired me to do this program.

I need steel toe boots, hair protection for when I am welding, bus passes for my first couple weeks of work, and help to pay off court fees.

Meeting this need will help me because I will have what I need to be on the job. I will also be able to get my driver's license back. This will mean I can drive to and from my job and not have to rely on public transportation.

Erica hit the ground running when she started this program. She is a leader in class and was recently promoted to shift manager. She has been in the program for about 7 weeks and has about that long left. I am looking forward to placing her in employment, but not looking forward to losing her in class. She looks out for the other students, and is responsible and kindhearted. Any help to Erica will be returned into the community 100%. She's always looking for ways to give back and help others.

About Jessica

What I like about my job is getting to see students get placed in employment and maintaining employment after working so hard. I love watching people pay off debts, save for houses,… Read more
