Cheryl from Chicago, IL

Recovering from a stroke. A laptop will help me develop professionally.

I need my own computer so that I can practice what I'm learning in class, continue to apply for jobs, and keep in touch with my family near and far.

My need and situation

I am a 62-year-old great grandmother to three, grandmother to fourteen and mother to three. Most of my family lives in Texas but I live in Chicago where I moved two years ago to take care of my mother; Family is deeply important to me. Several years ago while going back to college to obtain my degree, I had a stroke which forced me to leave the program just months before graduating.

Over the past many years, I have been slowly rehabilitating myself so that I can get a good job and live on my own. I am currently taking a business support services course to re-learn information I lost after my stroke. I worked for the Department of Health and Human Services connecting people to resources and I loved that work, I'm eager to once again find a job where I can be of service.

I need my own computer so that I can practice what I'm learning in class, continue to apply for jobs, and keep in touch with my family near and far.

Meeting this need will help me because I am committed to re-learn skills I once had and also to finding a job where I can put those skills to good use.
