How Do I Post Needs?

What's involved in the process?

To post needs on Benevolent, you have to be accepted as a validator. Then, you'll work side-by-side with your clients to outline what they need and post to the site. When a need is funded, Benevolent will send the funds to you, and you’ll use those funds to fulfill your client’s need! Then, you'll send an update to let donors know how meeting this need impacted your client’s life.

What are the steps?

Apply: To post needs on Benevolent, you need to be accepted as a validator. Click here to apply.

Prepare: You’ll work side-by-side with your clients to post their needs. You and your client should outline the need and how meeting that need will help him or her meet important goals. Then, you’ll be ready to log into our Post-A-Need Wizard.

Post: You and your client will log into our Post-A-Need Wizard where you’ll help your client describe his or her need and how it relates to important goals. We have prompts and examples to stave off writer’s block!

You’ll also write a validation statement from your professional perspective about why meeting this need is important for your client.

You’ll upload a photo of your client and a short video of your client telling his or her story.

Finally, you’ll submit the post to the Benevolent team for final review. We’ll check for typos, spelling, and flow and we’ll get in touch if we have any other suggested changes.

Your story will most likely go up within 2-3 business days.

Collect: The posted need will stay live on the Benevolent site for up to 90 days, or until it’s fully funded. If anything changes while the need is live, you can post an update to let donors know about it.

Although over 85% of needs posted on Benevolent are fulfilled, sometimes a post doesn’t raise all of the funds requested. If it’s not at least 95% of the way there by the date it’s needed, then it isn’t funded. If that happens, we’ll let you know, and you and your client can decide if you’d like to post it one more time. The Benevolent team will work with you to change the post so donors will be more likely to fund the need the second time around.

Fulfill: When a need is funded, Benevolent will send the funds to you in the form of a grant. You’ll fulfill your client’s need by paying for the item or service. You’ll use your professional judgment if things happen to change.

Update: Send us a photo or a note to let donors know how meeting this need impacted your client’s life. Send us at least one, or as many updates as you like. Everybody loves them!

How much time will it take?

Once you get the hang of it, posting a need typically takes about 20 minutes.

After a need is posted, the amount of time it takes to get funded can be anywhere from a few hours to the full 90 days, and not every need is funded. This is because donors respond differently to each need and certain weeks and months are more active donating times than others.
