Max Grace from Evanston, IL

Rebuilding after domestic violence! I need furniture to rebuild my kids' stability.

It feels wonderful to be putting my life back together: my kids are in school & I found a job. The only thing we're lacking is furniture for our home!

Max Grace and her family have settled in! Apr 26, 2016

Max Grace was able to complete the furnishing of her new apartment and purchase some items for her children. The family has been loving their new apartment and the school district that it allows both kids to attend. Mom's job is a short commute and the whole family is thrilled to have a place all their own with all of the comforts of home.

Overview

I am a single mom of 3 children (ages 10 months to 20 years). My youngest two and I have spent the past 3 months in a Domestic Violence shelter rebounding from a violent relationship with my ex-husband. I have managed to find a good school and daycare for the kids, a wonderful new job for myself, and now we are moving into our own apartment. It feels wonderful to be putting my life back together and the only thing we are really lacking is furniture for the new place.

My goals are to learn about business administration in my new position in hopes of one day opening my own business. I also would love to be able to stay in our current apartment and school district in order to provide stability for my children.

I need everything for our new apartment, from furniture to pots and pans and everything in between. My belongings were destroyed by my abuser and we came to the shelter with very few items.

Meeting this need will help me because it will establish a sense of normalcy for my children after all they have been through for the past several months. It will help me to feel like a successful parent and provider, and will help to keep the whole family healthy.

I have been working with Max Grace since she and her children came to the Domestic Violence shelter over 3 months ago. She has proven herself to be incredibly determined to overcome her DV situation and provide the best life possible for her children. She worked 12 hour days and longer while at the shelter, applying for jobs, looking for housing, and arranging school and daycare for the children so that if she received a job offer she would be able to begin as soon as possible. She has succeeded in achieving her main goals and it would be wonderful for the family to have an apartment that is more than bare bones for them to move into.
