Overview

I am a 59-year-old Chicagoan, born and raised. I was experiencing homelessness for 13 years, but finally moved into an apartment of my own just this week!

My goals are to go back to school and receive my GED. I'm always willing to help someone out and would love to do odds and ends to help out the neighbors in my community.

I am still getting settled into my new place. I only have a bed, table, and two chairs. I need household items such as a dresser, pots and pans, a comforter and sheets, cleaning supplies and bathroom necessities.

Meeting this need will help me because having everyday comforts in my new home will help me feel rested and ready to work on my goals. I'm excited to have a place to call my own and to continue working on my education.

I've known Lawrence since I started working at the Social Service Center over three years ago. He has always been so pleasant to work with, but has always had a difficult time finding the best housing opportunity for him. We were contacted by a supportive housing program in December 2015, and I assisted Lawrence in obtaining all his necessary documents. Lawrence followed through on all our appointments and was thrilled to move into his new home this week! He's in need a few more household items so he can make the space his own, and eventually work on obtaining his GED. Thank your for your time and consideration in helping out Lawrence!
