Jeremy from Freetown, Sierra Leone

Studying to become a city planner. A laptop will help me earn my degree.

Getting to the library every day is tough. I need a laptop to complete my assignments while balancing my work in my community.

Updates

Jeremy got his laptop—and is on his way to graduating from his program! Jun 9, 2016

Sylvester, Jeremy's validator from Develop Africa, sent us this terrific update:

Jeremy says, "Thank you Benevolent sponsors for helping me acquire this laptop. With this laptop, I will be able to get my homework done on time and I will also be able to learn and study from home without going to school to use the computer there every day, which has not been convenient. It will also help me move along quicker with my research and help me graduate on time."

Overview

I am a graduate student at a university in Tennessee. I also volunteer for Develop Africa doing a range of tasks, including packing school supplies, data entry and accounting. I am in my 2nd semester of graduate school.

My immediate goal is to complete my master's degree. After that is done, I plan to go on to pursue a doctorate degree. My ambition is to one day become a city planner.

I need a laptop so that I can work on my college papers and presentations at home. This will make it much easier for me to excel. Between my busy school schedule and my volunteer time, it's difficult to make it to the library every day to complete my work.

Meeting this need will help me purchase a new laptop and become a better and more efficient student. I will be able to make better grades - which will help me not just in this phase of grad school but also in the next season in my life.

Jeremy has been volunteering with Develop Africa since October 2015, working directly with me. He has eagerly taken on a wide range of tasks. He is responsible and dependable. He has a great future ahead of him. It would be fabulous if we could help him get a laptop.
