Susan from Eldoret, Kenya

Kenyan woman struggling to maintain my independence. Starting my my own business will help me get there!

My parents want to sell me into marriage. I know I can support myself independently. Help me purchase start-up materials for my tailoring business.

Overview

I am a 22-year-old obstetric fistula survivor. I had a fistula for 8 years and am now well. Right now I stay with my sister, as my parents wish to sell me into a marriage. I have just completed a vocational training program in tailoring.

My goals are to be able to open my own business and stand on my own.

I need to pay for my sewing machine, buy materials and pay for a small space where I can live and work.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to provide for myself. My parents won't be able to sell me into marriage. I hope to break the traditions that hold so many women powerless to make their own choices!
