Kait from San Diego, CA

Survivor of violence in Afghanistan. I need a root canal to move forward.

I want to recover from the trauma experienced in my home country so that I can be there for my children and be a productive member of society.

Overview

I am a 39-year-old refugee woman from Afghanistan. I am currently living in San Diego with my husband with whom I have 6 children. I have many medical needs but for the last few months I have been struggling with dental issues that I cannot afford to treat.

My goal is to continue to recover from the trauma experienced in my home country so that I can be there for my children and be a productive member of society.

I need a root canal on one of my teeth, but my insurance does not cover it and I cannot afford to pay out of pocket.

Meeting this need will help me because I am in a lot of pain and it interferes with caring for my family. With this help I can focus on taking care of myself and get my health to where it needs to be so that I can continue taking care of my family.

Kait recently became a client of SURVIVORS in order to receive mental health services to help rehabilitate her after having experienced extreme trauma in her home country. She is currently a refugee and has been struggling to get the care she needs in this country. It would be amazing to get this small grant so that she could get the dental care she would otherwise not be able to get. Coupled with the mental health services that Kait is receiving through our organization, getting the funds for her dental care would greatly reduce her stress and anxiety and lead to a better overall wellbeing. I will continue helping her with her medical case management needs until Kait feels she is doing better and has a higher sense of self-efficacy.
