LeAnn from Chicago, IL

I am moving forward and need a computer to take classes online

A computer will help me go back to school quicker and increase my income. I need more earning potential so I can have my son live back home with me.

Message from Emily: Apr 3, 2013

LeAnn is SO appreciative of the money donated towards her computer! LeAnn is an incredibly hard working single mom who is balancing work, family and even volunteering at JARC! This computer has made life easier for LeAnn and helped her goals seem even that much closer!

Thank you from LeAnn Apr 2, 2013

I would just like to take this time to thank the Benevolent organization and everyone who supported my need. Being able to get my computer has allowed me to complete Robotic Welding Programming Training with much more ease, as well as, to do my job as a welder, robotic programmer, and welding instructor. Having a computer gives me the ability to access the internet, type case notes and further my knowledge of anything to do with my welding career. It may not seem like much to other people, however for me it has really given me the edge for being a better employee and improve myself, as well as has cut the amount of time it takes me to accomplish these tasks by having the luxury of doing them at home versus at a library or some one's house. So thank you all so much for helping me to do better and be better. - LeAnn

An update from JARC and the Benevolent Team Dec 21, 2012

LeAnn appreciates the sixteen generous supporters who helped fund her need for a computer so she can continue her education. Validator Emily says: "It's great so many of our students have had needs met, they appreciate it so much!"

Both the validators and recipients from Jane Addams Resource Corporation will personally update their supporters once they are back from their holiday break.

The Benevolent Team

I am currently a welder and want to improve my income and would like to continue my education through online classes. In order for me to do this I need a computer.

I need a computer with Microsoft Office Software. Meeting this need will help me because it will mean that I can provide childcare for my son by furthering my education as well as assuring that I will get to see him every day which maintains the motivation and drive that I have to keep working hard every day.
Meeting this need will help me achieve future goals because it will allow me to make more money and have my son in my care 24/7. It will allow for me to further my education and combine my welding training with a college degree. This will allow for me to be employed at a higher position, which in turn means I will have the ability to increase my income and better support my son. Purchasing a computer sooner than later lets me start working towards my degree sooner.

I was released from my incarceration in January 2011 at which time I attended a welding training program at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. I was the first graduate in the welding class and was immediately employed at a company that had just introduced welding into their plant. Unfortunately, this meant my wages were on the lower end of the scale but I was happy to even have a job and to gain this experience. My 3-year old son has had to stay in Indiana with my mother as a result of my income not being enough to support my son in the sense that I cannot provide daycare. At this point, I feel lucky that I have family who can care for my son regardless of the fact that they are out of state and so far away. I hope to become self sufficient enough in the next year to provide care for my son so he can be with me full time.

I have become a welder and I am starting from the very bottom of the pay scale as it is a new addition to the company. It is very important for me to have the edge over others in my career field, which is one reason that I would like to further my education. I also feel that doing the best I can for my son is furthering my education, as it will allow for me to increase my income. I work hard every day so that I can be a better mother and provider, as well as when my son is older he can see that even though a person makes mistakes it is possible to overcome them and be a better person because of them.

I live by myself but hopefully soon will have my son with me.

I think of myself mostly as a positive and outgoing person. If I have the ability to help someone else out in their situation, it's my pleasure to do it.

I'm most proud of overcoming my addiction and being the best mother I can be. Even though I am a felon and have been incarcerated, it has been the most transforming experience in my life. I was able to take a rehab program and several self help classes which helped me to see where I made my mistakes and how I can better myself. In going through that, I have become a better person. Without my incarceration, I don't believe that I would have nearly all of the drive, motivation, and direction that I do today.

I went to the school at UW Oshkosh however I never completed my degree. I was the first graduate from the Welding Fast Track program at JARC.

Something interesting about me is that I love to public speak and share my story of adversity. I have had the opportunity to speak in front of over 1600 people.

Validated by Emily from Jane Addams Resource Corporation (What does this mean?)

I have known LeAnn for over a year since she first enrolled in our Welding Training Program at JARC. LeAnn was our first graduate of our Welding Fast Track program, JARC helped place her in a welding job and she is still excited at that job.

I think meeting this need is important because LeAnn is on the right path to achieve self-sufficiency for herself and her son. Her son is her motivation and by being able to continue to see him as often as possible that helps her keep going in life and in her job.

Since she is excelling in her career as a welder she is ready to take it farther by going back to school and she needs a computer to do this.

This will move LeAnn's life forward by giving her that small push forward on her path to self sufficiency.

LeAnn is incredibly motivated and driven to achieve her goals for herself and her son.
