Diana

Diana from Bronx, NY

I'm a hard-working mom of three. I need a new bed to take care of my health.

I am requesting help to acquire a new bed. The bed I am sleeping on now is very small and uncomfortable, giving me back problems.

"Thank you so much. I appreciate everybody's donations. The first night on my new bed was amazing. I took a shower, I put my bedsheets on, and I slept so well for the first time in years. I was able to go to sleep and go right back to sleep after waking up. I haven't been able to experience that since a long long time ago. My back feels great and it hasn't felt like this in at least ten years."

Overview

I am a 38-year-old mother of three children. I am currently taking care of my 19-year-old son because he has no father or any male role figure. I'm also a recovering addict and I've been clean since about six years ago. I'm a domestic violence survivor. In 2012, I left my husband because he broke my jaw in two different places. I'm hoping to learn and attract people that are positive and want to do something with their lives. I have been homeless since 2012 and I recently got my apartment and I'm trying my best to maintain my sobriety and my mental health.

I would like to start a trade in dental assistance. I love working with people and enjoy helping others. One of my main goals is to learn how to say no.

I am requesting help to acquire a new bed. The bed I am sleeping on now is very small and uncomfortable. I have severe back and neck problems from falling off the subway platform not once but twice. One time accidentally, the other time I was pushed, resulting in my back problems. I am also suffering from neck pain and sleep loss from my jaw getting broken in a very bad relationship. Due to the falls, my leg, my ankle, and my heels were broken. I get very scared now when using subway trains. My mental health and life in general is improving but not being able to get proper sleep nightly is hindering my progress.

I am humbly requesting a bed for my wellbeing so I can become a healthy member of society again. Thank you all and God bless you for your consideration.

I have been Diana's social worker here at Barrier Free Living Apartments since she moved in over a year ago. I have provided case management and counseling services for her as she's come to be proactive on maintaining her housing, her health, and her sobriety. Her income is extremely limited as she only receives Public Assistance, and so she is not able to afford a new bed. A new bed for her would be beneficial and needed for her to live better with her back and leg pain that she has everyday.
