Janice from Chicago, Illinois

I'm on my path out of homelessness! A sofa & table will make my new space functional.

I have been confined to a wheelchair after suffering from burns. Basic furniture will allow me to heal.

Overview

I am a 60-year-old Chicagoan who has been experiencing homelessness for the past 3 years. I will be moving into an apartment in a few days with my two cats, Sarah and Jake. We are so excited to have a place of our own where the cats can run around and play.

My goals are to make this new house a home for me and my two pets. With more housing stability, I plan to work on my health goals. I have been confined to a wheelchair, but I am hoping to continue healing from leg burns in order to be able to get out of my chair. My health is extremely important to me and, with my new apartment, I will have a safe and clean place to take care of myself.

I need funding to pay for some necessary items like a sofa and kitchen table in order to make my new apartment functional for living. While I am grateful for this new apartment, I still have much work to do in order to furnish it.

Meeting this need will help me because having a safe and comfortable environment to heal and get stronger is essential. I am excited to take this next step with my two cats and I am looking forward to creating a home here for me and my two babies.

I first met Janice through our street outreach program. She informed me recently that she would be moving into an apartment later this month. My staff and I are extremely excited for Janice and are eager to support her through this transition in any way we can. Being able to purchase these essential household items will make it just a bit easier to transition smoothly into stable housing.
