Betty

Betty from Chicago, IL

I am missing 75% of my teeth. I need dentures to regain my self-confidence.

At 75 years old, I feel young as ever at heart. My goal is to maintain my health in any way that I can.

Overview

I am a very young at heart 75-year-old woman. I am homeless and living at Lincoln Park Community Shelter. I live on SSI and I hardly get any money from that and I can barely afford any additional necessities. I live from check to check.

My goal is to maintain my health in any way that I can. That is hard on my pocketbook (vitamins, health club, and other associated needs of living healthy). Although I am older, I am very self conscious about my appearance. Enough so, that I cover my mouth when I eat. I can't eat healthy food without teeth and I will never be able to have them fixed.

I need partials for my top and bottom teeth as I am missing 75% of my teeth. I spit when I eat and cannot chew my food. I can only eat soft food.

Meeting this need will help me because my appearance is such that I am completely affected emotionally. I am self-conscious and cannot eat healthy foods like vegetables and other fresh fruit. I miss my teeth.

I have been working with Betty for the past 6 months as a Case Manager at Lincoln Park Community Shelter to reach her goals of obtaining permanent housing and related mental health issues. We work together in maintaining her personal health and that is why we are trying to fund her dental needs.
