Updates
Thank you and Happy Holidays from Charles! Dec 21, 2017
Charles' validator Kayla has filled us in on an exciting update for Charles since he was able to fund his need.
Kayla said, "Charles stopped by my office this morning to pick up his snowsuit, winter boots, and his thermals - he was thrilled! He wanted to thank everyone for their generosity and wish everyone a Happy Holidays!"
Overview
I am an employee of StreetWise, a program that aims to assist individuals facing homelessness to learn about entrepreneurship through selling StreetWise publications. I have been working for this company for almost 4 years and love my job.
My goal is to earn enough money to move out of the nursing home I live in, and find a stable, private, and permanent place to live on my own. I am hoping that my StreetWise position will help me to achieve this goal. I'm working with a social worker at my nursing home to locate independent housing.
I need a sturdy pair of winter boots, a winter coat, winter coveralls, and gloves as well as a hat. I may look familiar to you as I previously asked for assistance with these items on Benevolent. When I moved to the nursing home I'm currently living in, the facility sent all my belongings to the wrong nursing home facility, and both facilities say they're unaware of where all my belongings are.
Meeting this need will help me because winter is approaching in Chicago, and in order for me to sell StreetWise and stay warm enough in the cold weather, I need a new set of coveralls, boots, and winter accessories. Thank you so much for helping me with this need!

Charles has been a guest of the EDSSC for several years. He is dedicated to his job as a StreetWise vendor and spends as much time as he can selling StreetWise magazines. He does suffer from arthritis in both legs, but he is still determined to do his job to the absolute best of his ability. When Charles came to the EDSSC and told me his assisted living facility lost his belongings upon his move, I contacted Benevolent staff to see if we could post a second time. Charles is thrilled to have Benevolent's support as we move into these colder months!
