Overview

I need a futon for my living room, including a futon frame along with the mattress.

My current situation is that I do not have a couch in my living room. My son receives speech therapy and physical therapy, and I would like to have somewhere for the therapist to sit when she comes and works with my son.

Meeting this need will help me because it will make me feel better about having them come to the house to provide services for my son.

My goal is to eventually furnish my entire living room. But for now, this will really help me in being confident in welcoming the therapists and other guests in my home.

Right now, my biggest challenge is trying to accommodate the speech therapist and the physical therapist each time they visit. I'm embarrassed that they both have to sit on the floor during their visits.

I have always wanted to do what is best for my family. As I put their needs first, It has hindered me from doing things in my home that I would like to do. I am seeking employment, so I can earn more money for my family.

I think of myself mostly as a mother. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. I always put their needs first, and my son receiving speech therapy is very important to me.

I'm most proud of the improvements this has made in my child's life. My son's language continues to improve with each visit from the speech therapist.

Something interesting about me is I care for my children. I believe in advocating for my family.

I have known Maria and her family since she has been enrolled in our Home Visiting program (over two years). I visit with Maria on a weekly basis, providing her with parent education. I think meeting this need is important because Maria has on occasions cancelled her son's PT and ST visits, due to her situation of not having anywhere for them to sit. This need will make her more comfortable with inviting the therapists in her home. This will move Maria's life forward by continuing to receive the services that her son needs to prepare him for school in the future (school readiness). Maria is a great parent and cares for the well being of her children. I would hate for that to be the reason that her son does not receive the therapy he needs.
