"I cannot believe there are people in the world to give money to me but we will never meet. To help me and my family make a hardware shop and make money to help our children. God bless you with the good spirit to continue helping." - Prisca

Overview

My name is Prisca and I am a 36 heard old wife and mother of four children. My children are ages 14, 11, 9, and 7. When my first child was born, the labor was very difficult and it left me with a fistula. I was in pain and couldn’t control my urine and feces for 14 years. The smell drove people away and since I was leaking all the time I felt ashamed. Earlier this year I had surgery and my fistula is now repaired. I am healthy and dry.

My goal is to grow the small hardware kiosk/shop that I have with my husband. We have been running it together but I haven’t been able to contribute as much as I want to because of my fistula, so our business is very small and barely supports our family. We own one acre of land and I want to move the shop there and make it bigger.

I need funds ($200) to open the bigger shop on our land and expand our business by buying merchandise and supplies.

Meeting this need will help me because now I am healthy and ready to contribute to my family’s business fully. We just need the funds to help us build a larger kiosk/shop and to buy more inventory for the hardware shop. With more income, I can pay for my children’s school fees and help them get educated. It may not sound like $200 could make a difference, but in Kenya this amount of money can buy a great deal of supplies to help us build and grow our small hardware shop.

Prisca suffered the shame and challenges of living with an obstetric fistula for 14 yrs. She was socially ostracized, although lucky have a husband that supported her and did not abandon her. Prisca recently had surgical repair of her fistula and attended business skills and farm skills training with Beyond Fistula. I have confidence in Prisca's ability to work hard to grow her hardware shop and to improve her crop yield. This will allow her to better support her children.
