Nancy from Eldoret, Kenya

It's tough as a student and mother. I want to start a side business selling chickens.

I've been in school & will graduate in August, but for now I have trouble feeding my children. With funds I can buy chickens to sell for a profit.

Overview

My name is Nancy and I am a 26 year old student and single mother. I became pregnant at age 14 and now I have three children who are 12, 10, and 5. The birth of my last child was obstructed, long, and painful, and left me with a fistula, which was only repaired by surgery recently. While I had the fistula I started social work school and I will graduate with my diploma in August on 2018. I live with my mother.

My goal is to get a job in social work when I finish school, but in order to feed my family I need more income than that. So I want to start a chicken resale business. I did a business training with Beyond Fistula and I have the skills to run a business.

I need funds ($200) to get my business going. I will buy chickens, feed, and equipment to keep them safe and healthy until I sell them.

Meeting this need will help me because once my business is set up I will earn money to feed my children. Right now since I am a student so I don’t have income and I am struggling to feed them. With my business, I can meet my children’s needs and focus on finding a job in my field of social work with my diploma.
