Esther from Eldoret, Kenya

Just $300 will be enough to send my granddaughter to school.

The funds will pay for her fees, books, uniform, and food. She recently had surgery; this money will let her go to school while I earn an income.

Overview

I am a grandmother raising my grandchild who suffers with a condition called obstetric fistula. Her name is Sharon and she is eight years old.

My goals are to support my granddaughter through school by paying for her school fees, books, uniform, and food. Sharon recently had surgery to fix her fistula and now she is healthy and needs to be in school.

I need $300 to support my granddaughter - this money is enough to afford her education while I earn income.

Meeting this need will help me because all I want to do is give my granddaughter the life she deserves. This money will be used to break her out of the cycle of poverty she was born in and give her a shot at a good future.

Esther and Sharon are the sweetest pair. Esther loves her granddaughter with amazing tenderness and wants nothing more than to give her a better future. The cost of school in Kenya is insurmountable for them, despite being almost nominal in the first world. I fully trust that Esther will support Sharon through her education if their need for school fees gets met. Beyond Fistula will continue to support them both as they move forward together. While the COVID-19 crisis has shut down many schools in Kenya, in our experience Benevolent needs take around 90 days to be funded, and then there’s a brief period where we are getting the funds transferred to Kenya. This means that when Esther gets the money from Benevolent donors, a few months may have passed. Not knowing what the future looks like for schools in Kenya as the pandemic unfolds, we feel that we can do the most good for the women in our programs by continuing to fundraise for them normally.
