Tamara

Tamara from Chicago, IL

I'm 2.5 years sober & stable! I need help with a bit of rent while I search for work.

I'm in a program that provides low-cost housing, but I need help paying for the next two months' rent & proper clothing so I can search for a job.

Overview

I am about to turn 40, and I have finally gotten housing, my family back, and I'm proud to say I have 2.5 years of sober time. Above and Beyond, and Grace House helped me get where I am now, and I'm using what they taught me to seek employment.

My goals are to keep my housing, get a job working in a hotel cleaning and doing housekeeping, and finally get my high school diploma. I recently received low-cost, permanent supportive housing that costs $75.00 a month through CHA's Heartland Alliance program. My primary goal is to stay in this housing program until I can afford market-rate housing.

I need support with the next two months of rent while I continue interviewing and looking for a job. I also need to purchase clothes that are suitable for interviews.

Meeting this need will help me because it will keep me moving forward not backward, and prevent me from becoming homeless again- keep me off the streets. I want to be able to help others heal like I have been helped. Meeting this need will keep me on the right track.

I have known Tamara through both Above and Beyond, and Grace House since October 2018. These transitional programs are preventive in nature, supporting folks develop the skills they need to move on to the next chapter of their lives. Tamara has been challenging herself to move through her trauma, develop attainable goals, and really carve out a future for herself. As many of us know, it could be easy, even understandable, to give up when the world knocks you down over and over again. Tamara refuses to give up on herself, on her sobriety, and on her future, and neither should we. Please consider supporting her here while she keeps going with this job search.
