Anne

Anne from Eldoret, Kenya

Mother of four; I need $250 to start a farm and support my children.

If I can lease land and buy seeds, I can start a farm and sell the excess crop to pay my children's school fees.

Overview

I am a 40 year old mother of four and fistula survivor. One of my pregnancies had a very difficult childbirth that lasted a long time, and when it was over I had a lot of pain and other problems. I lived this way for ten years, working odd jobs like doing laundry for families or doing day labor and construction. In 2019 I learned I had fistula, and I had surgery to heal me.

My goals are to lease a plot of land and farm. This would make more income than my odd jobs do. Right now I only make enough to cover our most basic needs.

I need $250 to lease a plot of land and buy seeds. Farming can feed my family and give me additional income by selling the excess at the market. I can use this money to pay for my children's school fees and help them get their educations.

Meeting this need will help me because I have four children who need more money than I am making right now, for food, clothes, and school fees. I learned farming skills from a program called Beyond Fistula and I am ready to run this small business. I only need the funds to get started.

Anne is incredibly strong. For ten years she lived with a painful, leaking fistula, not knowing what it was, and she still found work and met her children's basic needs during this time. She is ambitious and a very good mother, and I see how eager she is to give her children a better future now that she is healed. Beyond Fistula will continue to follow-up with Anne and offer her support as needed in her farming business.
