I am extremely estatic about your fund raising efforts that will help enable this mother get a step ahead. Words cannot express how excited I am that Shavon will be able to complete her exam and move forward to a more prosperous and productive life for her children. I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who found it not robbery to commit to the cause.

I am forever grateful to everyone that has opened their hearts to help me and my children. I am now on my way to job stability and financial security. Thank you again.......

Overview

I am a single mother of three working two days a week and cannot afford to take the state exam. However, once I take it, I have a job waiting for me.

My goal is to become a Registered Trauma Nurse. Taking the exam and getting this job would enable me to go back to college and finish my studies. It would also show my children that no matter your age or whatever obstacles life deals you that you can go to school at any age and be successful. Having my Nurse Aide License would do simple things that people often take for granted like keeping gas in my car. I would be able to afford new shoes and uniforms for my children for school for the upcoming school year. My children are in charter school so their uniform shirts have become pricey so having a stable job is greatly needed.

I'm trying to complete my state exam so that I can move forward in my educational endeavors to become a Registered Nurse. I have been working in homecare since I was 18 yrs. old. I'm 34 now. My Nurse Aide license expired in 2010 when the agency I worked for went out of business two weeks before my re-certification process. Since then, things have become really tough just trying to make ends meet and make sure my children are cared for properly. My children are 15, 9 and 7 years old.

Right now, my biggest challenge is finding stable employment because in the homecare field you must be certified/licensed to care for someone whether it is medical or non-medical. It is very difficult raising three children on my own without stable employment. It's hard for me to buy school uniforms, school supplies, etc. due to my lack of income stability. I am a hard worker and I want better for me and my children.

Having my Nurse Aide 1 license would be a blessing because it would secure financial security within my home and give me a slice of independence without having to rely on government or community resources. Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to have a variety of employment opportunities available such as working in homecare, the hospital, or in a nursing home.

I have known Shavon for a little under a year. I started with Grace-Mar as a volunteer last September. Shavon came in for an interview and assessment. We had a CNA job fair recently and I came across her resume. In the spare of the moment, I called her in to be interviewed and she was more than willing to alter her schedule to come in.

I think meeting this need is important because it is vitally important for Shavon as a mother to not only meet the need of her family but to also ensure that they have a brighter future. I believe that Shavon's self worth will double when she is able to stand on her own by making her own contribution to her acceleration in life.

This will move the recipient's life forward by enabling Shavon to secure employment. By securing employment, Shavon will be able to stabilize not only her home but her life.

Shavon has been a blessing to meet. She is very humble and has a sweet spirit. Just from the time spent with her, I can tell that she is a dedicated and committed individual who is goal and family oriented.
