Patricia from Chicago, IL

Moved past homelessness and into our own apartment. Furniture will make this apartment home.

My family recently moved into our first apartment on our own, without the support of family. I need furniture to make this house a home for my kids.

Overview

I need furniture for my first apartment: a sofa, love seat, chair, and a TV stand.

Meeting this need will help me because I would not be able to afford any furniture from my extremely tight budget. This would be less of a finanicial burden because my goal is to save as much money as I possibly can to have money set aside for emergency purposes.

My current situation is I recently moved into my first apartment on my own, without the support of other family members. Because of my fixed income, it is difficult for me to purchase the essential items needed to make my apartment more home-like. I would like to be able to give my children the home that they have always wanted.

I will be extremely grateful for your support and so will my family. Thank you and God bless!!

I'm from Hightown, Missouri and now I live in Chicago.

I have 2 children: my eldest is 20 and my youngest is 17. Both are enrolled and excelling in school. My daughter, who is the 20 year-old is enrolled in a Pre-Nursing program at the University of Illinois at Chicago and my son is in his senior year at John Hope Prep High School and on the football team. I am very proud and thankful for my children. I try my best everyday to be the best mother that I can possibly be for my family.

Something interesting about me is that I love to give back and help the elderly community, and I'm happiest when I'm at church worshipping.

I'm most proud of maintaining my sobriety from drugs and alcohol for the last 15 years.

We met when Patricia moved into the Children's Place supportive housing program in October 2012.

I think meeting this need is important because this will make Patricia and her family feel more at home.

This is Patricia's first apartment, as she has always lived with her mother and other family members. During the years of her chronic homelessness, she was not able to provide her children with all the wonderful things that she dreamed of, and despite these efforts she was able to ensure that her children remained in school and focused on better opportunities. By meeting this need, it will continue to reinforce the hope that she has always instilled in her children that good things come to those that are able to remain focused and positive.
