Thank you from Kim Dec 30, 2013

We just received this note from Kim:

"I was in tears when I saw the email that we got funded! Because you cared enough and followed your heart to help us, we are now able to get the car fixed and be able to safely and with confidence drive to interviews, to school, appointments and everyday dealings. I am praying for a job soon! Striving everyday to reach our goals and see dreams come true. You have made this one less hardship for me to have to face I cannot tell you what a relief this is. I am from my heart truly thankful. May you and your families be blessed. What a wonderful life it would be if we all helped each other in need."

Overview

I need help repairing my car. This includes replacing the brakes and rotors, two new tires, and wheel alignment. Meeting this need will help me because with a dependable car I will be able to look for work, take my son to school and appointments, and take care of our daily needs.

My current situation is that my car is damaged and has two worn tires. The auto shop told me that the repairs need to be done as soon as possible. With winter and rain approaching, it is a huge concern that I have safe transportation for me and my son.

My goal is to earn a solid income so I can provide a stable life for my son and myself. I will be able to look for work knowing I have a dependable and safe means of transportation.

We never know in the blink of an eye what can happen this life. I have to believe that nothing is impossible to those who believe. My prayer is that as someone meets our need that we will be able later to pay it forward and help someone else.

I'm from San Leandro, CA, where I still I live with my 6-year-old son. Something interesting about me is I enjoy walking, spending time with my son, and listening to motivating and inspirational speakers. I'm happiest when I'm with my son, family and friends. I'm most proud of my 6-year-old son who is in kindergarten, and of obtaining my medical assisting license.

I am a single mom. I put myself through school and obtained my medical assisting license. Two months after graduating, my mom, whom I lived with, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. I took care of her until her passing last year. I am looking for work now to provide a living for my son. I receive no income and have sold everything I own to keep us going.

We met when Kim came to Davis Street to access our services. I think meeting this need is important because Kim has obtained her education and is highly motivated to provide a good home for her son and herself. She put aside her plans while her mother was ill, and now needs reliable transportation to obtain and keep a good job, as well as take her son to school and doctor appointments.

Kim is smart, articulate and caring. She is in this situation through no fault of her own, merely because she honored her family obligations in caring for her mother. She can now devote all her time and energy to her and her son's well being.
