Josie from Chicago, IL

I'm determined to get my MSW to help inner-city children and I need the app fee for grad school

My goal is to help underprivileged kids achieve their dreams in education just like I was able to. I need the app fee to apply for an MSW program!

Josie's applied to the MSW program! Dec 30, 2013

Chicago Lights just let us know that Josie's sent in her MSW application!

Josie sends her thanks: Dec 19, 2013

Thank you for the funding for my graduate application. I am very honored to receive this gift! Merry Christmas!

I need funding for a college application fee for graduate school. This includes the application fee so I can submit my application for a Masters of Social Work program.

Meeting this need will help me because I will finally be one step closer to reaching my dream of earning my MSW! My goal is to help underprivileged children in the inner-city so they can achieve their dreams in education just like I was able to. I recently graduated with a Bachelors of Social Work Degree and would really like to get my Masters and eventually be able to work in the community I live in.

My current situation is that I am disabled and also helping my brother who is also disabled due to a stroke. I am actively seeking employment, but due to the financial needs from my family, I am unable to afford to application fee necessary to submit my application for a local MSW program.

I'm from the Southside of Chicago, IL. I live in the Englewood community of Chicago.

Something interesting about me is that I am the first person in my family to graduate college. I'm most proud of my college degree!

I'm happiest when I am volunteering.

Need funded!

Thank you for helping Josie fund this need.

I met Josie when I was interning at the Elam Davies Social Service Center. I created a Job Readiness Program and worked with Josie on employment and education related tasks.

I think meeting this need is important because Josie has a strong desire and drive for a career as a "helping professional". She was the first person in her family to graduate from college, and did so while suffering from a debilitating illness. She is truly an inspiration. The application fees for graduate school are extremely expensive. Meeting this need would help Josie on the next step toward reaching her goal of earning her MSW!
