I'm blind & need assistive software to search for employment + access the world

My JAWS software is outdated. An upgrade will allow me to search for my first job in over 30 years and connect with the world around me.

Thank You from Lisa - Validator Mar 13, 2014

I was so excited when I saw the email confirming that Brian had been funded. Thank you everyone who realized the need and stepped forward to help Brian reach his goal so that he will be able to get the JAWS program for his computer.

I'm excited, very excited! Thank you to the donors, without the donors this would not have been possible. I'm so grateful! Benevolent and the donors were the only resource that was able to support me with this. Now I can move forward in employment and daily living.

Hi my name is Brian. I'm from Sterling Heights, Michigan which is where I live right now. Something interesting about me is I am a good typist and am happiest when the weather is warm.

My goal is to find a job outside of the house. I would like work as a receptionist. I took typing in elementary school and high school and have built my skills in these settings ever since. If I find a job, I will be entering the workforce for the first time in 30+ years.

My current situation I am totally blind and have been all my life. I have an outdated JAWS system that needs to be upgraded and am unable to pay for the program because it's expensive and I am on a fixed income. Not having an updated system has stopped me in my search for employment.

Meeting this need will help me because it will help me in my daily living and my search for employment. Everyday communications is important for my daily life and in keeping with current events and the world at large. I will also be able to receive email which is an important form of communication these days.

I met Brian when he applied for the Citizens Advisory Committee for the RTA of Southeast Michigan, to advocate for better transit for constituents in this area. Brian was selected to serve and I currently serve on the board of directors.

I think meeting this need is important because Brian wants to enter the workforce in the very near future and due to his blindness the adaptive equipment will enable him to compete with his counterparts.

Brian has a very persistent attitude and is motivated to be in a position to utilize his computer in the comforts of his home. Also, with this equipment Brian can seek employment through the worldwide web on a regular basis. Let's help Brian meet his need. Thank you.
