Welding gear is critical to the success of my job search and future employment

I'm training to be a welder to provide the safe home for my son that I lacked. I'm confident that with gear I'll find a job & thrive in this industry.

Overview

I am a current student at Jane Addams Resource Corporation welding school.

I need welding gear to become a new member of a growing industry. This includes welding helmet, steel-toe boots, a welding jacket, and an eye exam to ensure I can see well enough to do my work. Meeting this need will help me because I am confident that with this gear and my welding skills I will be able to find a job no matter where I go and maintain myself as a permanent employee in the manufacturing industry. My goal is to get a full-time job in welding. The manufacturing industry works a lot like it does for a mechanic -- you have to bring your own tools a lot of times to the job.

My current situation is that I am currently looking for work. I came to JARC through my counselor at the Salvation Army where I currently live. I have been going to class at JARC for 8 weeks and I am hoping to find a welding job. I have made some mistakes in my life that have cost me my freedom, but now I have changed my life and am ready to move forward. I know that having a career will help me to be a better and more stable part of my family's life and to be able to provide the safe home for my son that I did not have growing up.

I'm of Puerto Rican descent and born in Chicago. I'm most proud of being alive. I grew up in a rough neighborhood and saw a lot of people hurt and I'm proud to have come through it. I have a 6 1/2 year old son who is very polite and well-mannered. I love to read and play math games with him, and video games as well. I'm happiest when I am spending time with my son. Something interesting about me is that I am honest and caring. I like to read, play chess, and work out.

We met when I interviewed Marco for the welding program. He was a good candidate who had done his research and wanted to use his previous construction experience to the trade of welding. I think meeting this need is important because Marco has worked hard to turn over a new leaf in his life and employment will keep him able to support himself and his family.
