Overview
I need welding gear for my future career in welding. This includes steel toe boots, a welding helmet, a welding jacket with sleeves, and welding gloves. I would also like to get an eye exam before I start work so that if I need glasses I can use my first pay check to get glasses.
Meeting this need will help me because I know that when I'm interviewing that having my own gear is something employers will want to see. This will show that I'm serious about welding as a career. My goal is to become a welder and build a successful career so that I can support my daughter. I have had experience in customer service as well as sales but it never felt like something that I could build on the same way I have learned welding is.
My current situation is that I am attending school full-time with Jane Addams Resource Corporation and I am living with my parents. I lost my job and have been living off of unemployment. I decided to go back to school for a career in welding. I was admitted into the program with low math scores and have been taking extra tutoring every day to get my scores up. I have gotten good feedback from my instructor and am so grateful for the help he has given me to improve my math scores.
I'm from Chicago. I live with my parents. I have a daughter. She will be 6 soon and she's one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I feel like I have come from the bottom and worked my way up. My parents helped me a lot to stay out of trouble and not fall into the same traps a lot of people from my neighborhood did.
I'm most proud of being educated and valuing education, and keeping a good head and knowing where I want to be.
I'm happiest when my life is in order and I feel stable and something interesting about me is that I am kind-hearted. I help people when they need a friend or they are feeling down.

We met when I first interviewed Dwayne for the welding program. I was impressed with his work history and the enthusiasm he showed for the program. His math scores were a little low so I asked him to attend tutoring while in the program. He has been doing that in addition to our full-time training program and he has been working very hard to get his scores up. Recently, Dwayne was tested for a certification with the National Institute of Metalworking Skills, and he was able to pass because of the hard work he has been putting in to the program.
I think meeting this need is important because Dwayne has worked very hard to get where he is. He has impressed me by showing up every day for morning tutoring as well as for the full-time welding class times during the afternoons and evenings. He is always willing to help people in class who need it as well as to be supportive of his friends and family while he is in the program.
I know that Dwayne will be hired very soon--he has gone through all of our certifications very quickly. He has only been in the program for 8 weeks and he already has 3 out of 4 certifications. He has begun the testing process for his American Welding Society credential--his final credential before we will place him in a welding job. I am so proud of the work he has done in the program.
