Pearl from Chicago, IL

I'm a single mom eager to start working. I need summer child care to make it happen!

It's very difficult to find child care for a child with special needs. By sending him to summer camp, I'll be able to start working again.

Thank You from Pearl: Apr 23, 2014

We are very excited for my son's summer camp experience! It's great to know that my son will be cared for by people who are trained to work with special needs children, and I have much less to worry about as I look for work and manage the logistics of our lives. Thank you so much, Benevolent!

Overview

I am a 39 year old mother of a special needs child. I lost a job last year due to not having adequate child care and I'm trying to become independent again.

My goals are to find suitable child care so that I will be able to work full time. At this time, my son has been accepted into a parks camp program during the week this summer.

I need the funds to pay for my son's summer camp, which will allow me to start working.

Meeting this need will help me because it's very difficult to find child care for a child with special needs. The staff are trained specifically to care for him and to find private child care is very expensive.

Pearl has been coming to LIFT regularly since February. Her 9-year-old son has autism. If he can attend camp from 9-6pm this summer, it will allow Pearl to begin working. Pearl and her son are currently living in a shelter, so this will also allow her to begin working on finding stable housing. Pearl is very responsible and dedicated to her son. It has been a delight working with her. She works very hard to make sure her son receives good care, makes progress in school, and experiences new activities.
