Sue from Chicago, IL

My son & I are starting fresh! We need basics for our home to launch forward.

My goal is to get my GED. Knowing that my son has a bed and other basics - a place to call home - will help me focus on my education!

Sue and her son can now get beds for their home! Jul 28, 2014

Chicago Lights sent us this message today:

"We were able to find a great deal on mattresses with the money already raised by Benevolent donors! That means Sue and her son can each have their own bed! We’re keeping in touch with Sue and could post another Benevolent need at a later time for remaining items she and her son really need."

Overview

I am a decent, caring person, and I enjoy helping others. My son is also a decent person who works and helps me out so we have a better place to live; he encourages me to get my education. I try to be a good mother to my son.

My goals are to continue classes to get my GED. Feeling good about my apartment will help me to better myself. I plan to work on my self esteem over the next year so I can feel better about myself because I deserve it!

I need things for my apartment so that I can have everything in order and feel at home. Some things that I hope to get are: beds, a dresser, a chest, dishes, a microwave, and other household supplies like cleaner, detergent, and soap.

Meeting this need will help me to move forward and will allow my son and I to have a decent place to live in. Before now, I lived in a one-bedroom apartment with my son, and I slept on the floor. My new apartment has two bedrooms, which is what we really needed.

I met Sue while interviewing participants for our Community Collaboration Project (CCP) at EDSSC. Sue was a natural fit for our program, and I have been meeting with her now on a weekly basis since September. Sue is sweet, caring, and selfless when it comes to taking care of her family unit. She is an especially active and vital member of our weekly group support meetings for CCP. Sue has worked so hard this year to get to a better living situation for her family and she finally found an apartment. Sue is able to maintain the price of rent and living expenses, but she just needs a little help with turning her apartment into a home.
