Cathy from Chicago, IL

Homeless after fleeing abuse. Finally housed; basics will start my family off right!

My daughter and I have survived so much. We're starting over in permanent, subsidized housing and meeting this need will relieve much stress for us.

Overview

I am a mother of three: a dynamic, 23-yr old stepson, a 22-yr old in college, and an 17-yr old who is resuming high school after a hiatus from battling some health issues. I have been through a lot, as a survivor of abuse from childhood, as an adult, and as a wife. I wear my heart on my sleeve, love serving people, and feel that my strong sense of morals and values keep me going.

In the short term, my goal is to maintain a home. I do not want to go back to a lifestyle of homelessness. In the long term, my goal is to get back on my feet and rejoin the workforce. My ultimate goal is to gain more education and work in the medical and health care field, given my significant previous experience working in home care, nursing home, hospital, and physical therapy settings.

I need essential home furnishings.

Meeting this need will relieve the stress of trying to find the funds for these essential items. I have been homeless for several years and my daughter and I are starting over in permanent, subsidized housing. Being homeless was stressful and impacted our health. I believe that stress is part of our health, and help in accommodating this initial need will help us function better overall. In conclusion, I really don't want to go back to living out of my car again.

I have known Cathy through the supportive services program here at Inspiration Corporation. I have worked as her case manager, along with our housing team, to help Cathy acquire and transition from homelessness into permanent, subsidized housing. She has truly been an inspiring gem to work with -- cheerful despite hardship -- always prompt and ready to complete the next step. It would be tremendous if Benevolent can accommodate her and her daughter's needs.
