Misty & her daughter have been studying for the GED! Sep 29, 2014
Ian, Misty's validator from Chicago House and Social Service Agency, tells us she is preparing for the GED:
"Misty and her daughter have been studying together over the past few weeks as Misty prepares for her GED test! Even with a recent domestic violence court date, Misty continues to strive for her GED to help her move towards the job of her dreams. Whatever you can give will help!"
Overview
I am a 40 year old single mother living with a nine year old daughter name Alexis. I've done three speaking engagements on HIV/AIDS over the past year to tell my story and inspire and encourage others. My husband & daughter's father passed away a few years ago, so I have been supporting and raising my daughter on my own since then. I love her more than anything in the world and am so proud of her. She is a straight A student and is heading in to the 3rd grade.
My goals are to become a social worker and support people living with HIV/AIDS. I would love to do street outreach, medical case management, and prevention work. I also hope to see my daughter go to college and achieve her dreams.
I need funding to take my GED exam & to get a copy of the test results.
Meeting this need will help me because the GED is an expensive test. As a single mother with very little income, the cost of this exam is a huge barrier. Without my GED, I cannot find employment or even volunteer positions. Having this certification would allow me the opportunity to apply for internships, volunteer positions, and even paid jobs within my dream field.
Need funded!
Thank you for helping Misty fund this need.

I met Misty on her birthday and will never forget one of our first conversations centering on her career goals and how motivated she is to achieve for her daughter. Misty is easily one of the hardest working, inspiring, kind, and caring people I have ever had the privilege to work with. We have been working on applying for volunteer positions together for her to serve as an HIV tester or outreach worker, and so many of these positions require a GED or high school diploma. Misty has been studying for her GED for years, and is taking classes regularly. The large cost for the exam is a huge expense, and I'm honored to ask for your donations for this cause on Misty's behalf.
