Sheila from Cincinnati, OH

Recent grad with social work degree; My license exam is last step to my dream career!

With my limited income, I'm unable to save for my LSW exam. Obtaining my license will help me secure a stable job & propel me forward in my career.

My name is Sheila and I'm an unemployed social work professional. I'm a member at Cincinnati Works and have successfully completed their Job Readiness Program. I'm also working with my Advancement Coach in seeking permanent, full-time employment.

My short-term goal is to sit for the social work licensing test to become a LSW (Licensed Social Worker). My long-term goal is to secure stable employment as a social work professional. Ever since working as an activity monitor with a social service agency assisting juvenile delinquent boys, I have known my calling is to be a social work professional. I enjoy helping individuals connect the dots, so that they can be whole again and rejoin the circle of society.

I'm in need of the funds to take the LSW exam. Though I have my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati, I still need the licensure in order to put my degree to use. In the past 2 years, I have taken whatever job was available to me. I have worked as a cook, a transportation driver, and a tax preparer. Unfortunately, these jobs were either part-time or seasonal and allowed me to only address my month-to-month expenses leaving nothing to go towards saving money needed to take the LSW exam.

Recently, I have had several great interviews. At least four of those prospective employers stated that while they were pleased to see that I had a master’s degree in social work, they could not hire me because I do not have a social work license. Obtaining my social work license will help me to secure stable employment, propel me forward in my chosen career path, and be the catalyst necessary to ensure my future stability and self-sufficiency.

Sheila is a talented and experienced woman who I have had the privilege of working with through our organization, Cincinnati Works. Sheila has proven a solid work ethic and a commitment to retain employment. She has a passion for helping others. Through her chosen career path of social work, Sheila has the knowledge and heart to help folks remove barriers that are preventing them from becoming thriving, self-sufficient, and contributing members of society. Sheila is seeking to take her LSW certification which will allow her to not only practice as a social worker, but have the much needed endorsement to do so. This achievement will provide more employment opportunities and pave the way for her to help more of our population. It will provide her with the confidence to not only know that she serves with her heart, but also through her achievement. Our society needs more willing servants like Sheila and I ask that you help us provide the opportunity for this growth.
