Overview

I'm a 47-year-old female currently training to become a Patient Care Technician. I recently completed my CNA competency exam through the Chicago Community Learning Center.

Growing up, I always imagined I would work in a health care setting because I am compassionate and enjoy helping people. Now that I am on this path, I have never been more excited. For once in my life, I am able to get the training I've always wanted.

I need assistance purchasing scrubs so that I can work as a home health aide while completing my training program. I was recently hired by an agency, but I cannot afford the uniform. Right now, I am underemployed working 2 days at a grocery store, earning less than $100 per week.

Meeting this need will allow me to direct my pay towards living expenses while I complete my training program. Ultimately, I will be able to work as a CNA, move to a safer neighborhood and advance my career prospects.

I know Christine through our Dislocated Worker Program here at the Chicago Federation of Labor Workers Assistance Committee. This program assists individuals who have been laid off due to no fault of their own. As a Program Coordinator, I work individually with Christine to help her reach her career goals. I'm so proud of Christine's accomplishments, including her recent passage of the CNA competency exam. Christine is so close to utilizing her health care knowledge as a home health aide, and all she needs is the uniform. Christine wants to work in health care so she can help people, so it would be really great to see her receive some help herself.
