Finally working again! Now all I need is a security deposit so I'll be housed.

I've been homeless since 2013, staying with family & friends. Now I have a job & can afford to rent a place of my own, but I need a security deposit.

Overview

I am a homeless father of two daughters - one in college and one graduating from high school this May. I've been a volunteer leader with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless for 8 years, working on homeless issues, reentry issues, and participating in their Speakers Bureau.

My goal is to continue my social service work. I would love to go back to school in August 2015 to get in my Bachelor's degree in Social Work.

In April 2013, I lost my job and have been homeless since July 2013, staying with family and friends for the past 19 months. God has blessed me and I am now working and I'm here seeking your assistance in raising $600 to cover a security deposit. I'm praying that God will touch your hearts as he has touched mine.

Meeting this need will help me because I'm currently employed and can afford my rent moving forward, but I just need to get over the hurdle of affording the deposit, which is so difficult. It would make me feel whole again to be in my own place, and not be a burden to someone else.

I first met Charles at a panel event that the EDSSC hosted in 2013 on Chicago homelessness. Charles spoke about his own experience and how he has sought support and services over the past several years. Charles is a strong advocate for a variety of homeless issues, and helping him fulfill this need would mean giving him a home of his own.
