Stacey from Detroit, MI

I'm a veteran & a single mom. I need attorney's fees for a child custody court date.

My son's father wants full custody, so I need an attorney to represent me. I need help raising funds for my May court date.

Overview

I am a 39 year old United States Army Veteran, who volunteers for Disability Network Of Wayne County as a Veteran Resource Navigator through AmeriCorps. I'm a single mother of an eight year old son.

My goals are to continue to have custody of my son. My son is in a healthy, safe, and loving home. His father is currently trying to get full custody of our son, because there was a child support review that stated that the amount of child support he is to pay has increased. Instead of him paying the amount that will be due each month he feels that he'll just take our son from me.

I need help with the payment $1,880 for an attorney (that's how much it costs total). My court date is May 8th 2015, and the attorney needs the money to even start the process of the paperwork. I received my paperwork in the mail from my son's father on April 9th, which isn't enough time for me to come up with any money for an attorney. I currently don't make enough money to pay for an attorney; with a court date that's coming so quickly. I'm pleading for help in this matter.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to have an attorney who will be able to represent me in court. I feel that without an attorney I'll be lost in regards to what needs to be done in this situation at hand. With an attorney he/she will be able to assist me in my emotional state and keep me calm. I believe that having an attorney will help me win this case and keep my child.

I met Stacey when she begin to volunteer at the Disability Network over four months ago. In that time Stacey has proven to be a very hard worker. She is often willing to go above and beyond for anyone in need of assistance. She has aided female veterans like herself with housing and utility help. She has been featured in our monthly newsletter for the month of April for her outreach efforts. Stacey has helped many people, and it would be great to see her receive the help she needs.
