Debra wanted to reach out to say thank you to all those who supported her need on Benevolent. She says, "I've been in my new job for three weeks, and it's going great. I really enjoy the work (using a press brake machine to make covers for transformers), and I enjoy working with my trainer. The boots I was able to buy with the funds are comfortable, and the calculator and caliper help me do my job well every day. Thank you very much for donating for me. It means a lot to know that people care about me without even meeting me. This really makes me want to work harder. I really appreciate what you did for me."

Good luck and well done, Debra!

Overview

My name is Debra and I am a 36 year old female receiving press brake machine training at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. Throughout my life, I’ve been in and out of jail. It took hitting rock bottom for me to realize that I needed to make a change in my life.

My goal is to complete training, start a career as a press brake machinist, and lead a self-sustaining life. I hope to one day be able to help my family in a time of need as they once helped me.

In order to reach my goal, I need steel toed boots, a scientific calculator, and clothes for my interview and job.

Meeting this need will help me be prepared for interviews, keep my job, and improve my life.

I met Debra when she came in to interview for the Press Brake program at JARC. I was immediately impressed by her honesty and introspection; she wasn't where she wanted to be in life, and she was trying to change that. Over the course of the training, she has served as a true inspiration to me and many other staff members. She is incredibly resilient, overcoming so many hurdles to get to this point in her life; she is determined, refusing to let anything get in her way; she is tenacious, working tirelessly to improve her skills; and she is grateful to all who help her on her way. Debra has overcome so much in her life, and I think having the community rally around her to meet these needs will give her the boost she needs to lead that self-sustaining life that she wants!
