I am in need of my security deposit for university housing for me and my daughter so I can attend college.

A wonderful thing happened for Amayah! Aug 24, 2012

 

I wanted to share this update about a wonderful thing that happened for Amayah. I shared Amayah’s story with one of her teachers from the high school that I work closely with, and the teacher shared her story and Benevolent’s information with someone else. Then, that someone else had a connection with the SIU Alumni Association, which is the school that Amayah will be attending. When the story was shared with the SIU Alumni Association, amazingly, they decided to cover the $500 housing deposit for Amayah!

 

Amayah only became aware that someone had paid her housing deposit when we here at CNE called the University to find out who to make the check payable to using the funds donated through Benevolent. They told us that it had been paid and explained the SIU Alumni Association’s decision to step in and help.

 

So now, not only has Amayah’s housing deposit been paid, but we’ve also been able to pay for things Amaya needed, but couldn’t purchase like a microwave, bed and mattress, sheets, comforter, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, towels, everything. Amaya was on her way to SIU, so I ordered the items to be sent to her at school and when I spoke to Amaya early this week, she told me all of the items have been delivered. Thanks again for being such a blessing to her and to all of the family that you serve.

I just wanted to say thank you to the supporters of Amayah in helping her reach this goal, as she starts on this journey, on the road to a higher education. The views of housing seem to be an unreachable goal. But through the gifts of such heartfelt supports like you, you made this dream a reality, Amayah is on her way to boldly reach the “American Dream” or in her own words “A Higher Education”. This higher education will last her a lifetime. Thank you again for your support and opening a door in her life and the life of her child.

I want to take this time to say thanks to everyone that help me to meet my needs....with your support I will be able to start school while living in the apartment on campus....once again thanks to everyone that support me. Your support really makes a different in my life.

Overview

My goal is to go to school and be able to have a more stable future for me and my baby. I need help paying for the costs of beginning college, particularly housing.

Specifically, I need the security deposit for housing as well as a few apartment items like a bed and cooking utensils.

Being able to go to school will mean that I will have better opportunities to support myself and my daughter.

I had my baby when I was 16 and have been able to succeed in school while also taking care of her.

I just graduated from high school with a 3.0 GPA. I am getting ready to go to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I am proud of my accomplishments and I look forward to even more at college.

I just graduated from high school and am living with my family until I move on to college. I came to the United States from Liberia 5 years ago. I have a 2 year-old daughter that will be coming with me to the university. I want to continue my success in school by graduating college to have better opportunites for me and my child.

I have known and have the pleasure of working with Amayah for the last for years. She has volunteered in the child care center where her child currently attends.
I think meeting this need is important because Amayah has worked so hard to stay focused in school, keeping up a GPA of 3.0 and balancing being a teen parent.
This will move the recipient's life forward by providing housing for her and her child, making Amayah able to attend Southern Illinois University.
Amayah has worked hard to accomplish the first of many stepping stones in her education and by helping her with this goal of funds for housing she will be able to reach many more.
