Mason from Modesto, CA

First generation Cambodian American. A laptop will help me make it through college!

Almost all the money I earn at my night shift job goes towards student loans. With a basic laptop, I know I can complete my program!

My need and situation

I am a first generation Cambodian American attending Modesto Junior College full-time. I am majoring in computer engineering. I work the night shift at a local Safeway Grocery Store. All the money I make goes towards paying my student loans. My family does not own a computer and they are unable to help finance my education.

My goal is to become a computer engineer and help support my family.

I need my own laptop. Everyday I spend a few hours in the library working on homework through the school's computers. It is hard for me to complete all of my school work on time because I only have two hours between the end of my classes and the beginning of my work shift.

As a computer engineering student all of my homework is based online. Having a laptop will help me to complete my work on time and achieve my dream of transferring to a four college and becoming a computer engineer. Any donation towards a laptop purchase will be greatly appreciated.

Mason is a first generation Cambodian American striving to become a college graduate while also working a night shift at a grocery store. He has been a member of CERI programs for ten years. His parents survived the Khmer Rouge Genocide and came to the U.S. as refugees. Mason wants to help support his family financially. This motivates him to continue his school studies. He needs his own computer to complete upper level course work. His work schedule interferes with his study time at the library. He needs to have the option of completing homework when he gets off of work. I hope you can help support Mason in reaching his goal to become a college graduate.
