Selma

Selma from Chicago, Illinois

I just need help covering 4 more courses to complete my degree in Child Development!

Completing my degree will help me create a place for children to be creative through play, learning and developing skills.

Overview

I am a 51-year-old childcare provider and community advocate. I am part of the Greater Logan Square Early Learning Coalition, serving families and community members. I have received my Basic Certification in Child Development and in the process of completing my Advanced Certification in Child Development at Truman College.

My goals are to be able to complete my degree and offer a place for children to be creative through play, learning and developing social and cognitive thinking skills. I also hope to support and engage families by providing community resources aimed at building strong families.

I need financial assistance to pay for my last four classes to complete my Associates in Applied Science in Child Development. This will enable me to become a professional and a certified educator in the field of early childhood education. I'm doing everything I can to raise the funds, including teaching, having a garage sale, selling food and researching other ways to supplement my income such as Uber and translating.

Meeting this need will help me obtain specialized credentials in the field of Early Childhood Education and Special Education, allowing me to be employed in any Child Development Center.

I met Selma through our Early Childhood Education Financial Coaching Program, where she has worked diligently to address savings, credit, and income. Her goal to complete her Associates Degree is something she is extremely passionate about. She aspires to develop a small business as a child care provider and educator. It would be amazing to see her reach this goal and establish herself as a professional in a field that she loves.
