Overview
I am a supportive uncle of my niece and her husband, whom I live with currently. We each pay a portion of the rent, and help each other out with household needs.
My plan is to be financially secure so I wouldn't need support from any agencies or any person, and be able to provide for myself. I would like to reach out to people who are less fortunate than myself and guide them to be self-sufficient and motivated to do things for themselves. I am also a current GED student at the community college, and I'm very determined to earn my GED.
I need a bed, dresser, and linens for my new apartment. I recently moved with my niece and her husband from another apartment, but our old building was purchased, and all my furniture was unfortunately destroyed by bed bugs and I had to throw them away.
Meeting this need will help me because it's important to have a comfortable place to sleep and rest, and storage for my belongings. I'm currently sleeping on the floor, and can't wait to have my own bed again.

I first met Kenneth about 7 years ago when I coordinated a local soup kitchen. I reconnected with him when I joined the Chicago Lights team, seeing him during drop-in services. Kenneth has been receiving case management with my support for a few years, and I've seen him succeed in a number of ways. He has completed a supportive housing program, continues to work on his education and obtaining his GED, and always wants what is best for himself, his friends, and his family.
Since Kenneth's recent move with family, he is in need of a few essential household items. Having these will help him feel comfortable as the colder months approach, and he can shift his focus back to his education goals and taking care of his family.
