Overview

After a couple weeks of hard work improving my reading skills through JARC’s Bridge program, I trained intensively to become a welder as a member of its Careers in Manufacturing Program. Within 10 weeks, I was very proud to receive the American Welding Society (AWS) certificate as well as complete OSHA training. Because of how fast I progressed, the instructors promoted me to shop supervisor, which understandably sped up the deterioration of my welding boots.

I want to get my foot more into the welding world! I plan to build on my skills in all kinds of welding such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding for the next few years. I pride myself on being an extremely competent and skilled welder who can be depended on to carry out any number of projects efficiently and to the highest standards.

Right now I need P.P.E. (personal protective equipment). In the manufacturing field, this gear is mandatory because of safety so I am going to need this gear no matter how I look at it. I'm a size 15 in boots so I can't just go to Walmart for a pair. The training center has large gloves but not the proper size for the type of welding that I'm currently learning.

While in training, some of these infractions are passable because JARC has additional temporary P.P.E. gear for me. However, this will not be the case in the work field.

Samec is a fantastic trainee! He has always been extremely dedicated and focused in my digital and financial literacy classes but has especially excelled at welding during his time at JARC. He is so close to getting a fulfilling job in the manufacturing world. It is also quite clear he has a thoughtful career vision. He wants to continue honing his welding skills for the next few years and eventually work in the automotive manufacturing industry. I honestly think the welding gear could go a long way in positively impacting Samec's career development.
