Salome

Salome from Eldoret, Kenya

A cow will help me feed my family, and even earn money to send my kids to school.

I've been working part time but could use more income for my children. I have skills to care for a cow & sell her milk but I need $200 to buy one.

Overview

My name is Salome and I am a 31 year old social worker with two children. I work part time for an organization called Beyond Fistula as the outreach and support leader, helping young women who have a childbirth injury called obstetric fistula. I had a fistula myself after a difficult childbirth, and this year I had surgery that repaired it so I am not leaking urine and feces anymore. I love working and supporting other fistula survivors.

My goal is to buy a cow and sell her milk to earn income. The cow's milk will also help me feed my children. My outreach work is only part time and I could use help feeding my children and earning money to send my children to school.

I need funds ($200) to buy a cow. I have the skills and experience to keep her healthy and the business skills to sell her milk and earn money.

Meeting this need will help me because when I have a cow I can earn income to feed my children, pay for their school fees, and pay for my health insurance for this year to cover my surgery.

Salome is an amazing woman. She works for us intermittently to help follow up on our fistula survivors to be sure they are doing well and to see what other support they need. She is resourceful and wants to earn more money to better support her children. She is a single mother (due to her husband leaving her after the fistula). Beyond Fistula fully supports Salome and we want her to be successful in her efforts.
