Overview

My name is Caroline and I am a 44 year old mother of four children. A few years ago I developed very much pain in my stomach and eventually a doctor told me I had fibroids and I needed surgery to remove them. The surgery did not go well and at the end of it I was left with a fistula, or a hole inside me. Last year in 2018 I had three surgeries to repair the fistula, and now I am healed. I support my family by selling fish. I own a small plot of land.

My goal is to start selling eggs from my chickens for income to support us. After my fistula surgeries I learned farming and business skills from an organization called Beyond Fistula.

I need funds ($180) to buy more chickens and a coop for my chickens. I also plan to buy better quality seeds and fertilizer to improve the yield from my land.

Meeting this need will help me because once I am earning money from selling fish and selling eggs, I can support my family. The crops from the land will help feed my family and I can sell the excess in the market. For the past few years I have been in pain from fibroids or leaking from fistula, and always being in the hospital for surgery. Now I am healthy and eager to provide more for my family than I was able to before the surgeries.

Caroline has suffered for the last few years with residual pain from her surgery and leaking due to her fistula after her surgery. She is finally repaired and has a new energy and drive to better herself and her family's situation. She recently completed our farm and business skills training seminar and has a business plan to improve her crop yield and to begin a chicken farm business. Beyond Fistula will be following up with her and supporting her in her efforts.
