Beatrice from Eldoret, Kenya

I need to buy a sewing machine and fabric, and I will be able to support my kids.

I've recovered from surgery and I'm ready to work to send my three kids to school. I want to make Maasai clothing, a style popular here in Kenya.

Overview

I am a 23 year old mother of three, wife, and fistula survivor. When I was giving birth at age seventeen the labor was very long because the baby was stuck. I got a hole, or a fistula, that leaked and hurt. I lived with it for six years until this year when I got surgery.

My goal is to make a business selling Maasai cloth. It is a colorful style of making fabric that sells well in Kenya. If I can sell it I can provide for my family so that my children can go to school.

I need $400 to buy the materials for making Maasai cloth. This is for a sewing machine of my own and fabric to get started.

Meeting this need will help me because I will use the income to pay my three children's school fees to to feed our family. The pieces I make are really popular and I am passionate about the art. All I need is the supplies to make my skill into a business.
