Sergio from Richmond Hill, New York

I want to go to college, but first I need my GED-- and for that I need a laptop!

I'm eager to go to college & build a life. I want to attend online courses, but libraries are closed & I'm having trouble studying with only my phone.

Overview

I am a young man that really wants to further my education. I already obtained my IEP (Individualized Education Program) diploma however, when I went to apply for college I was told that's not a High School diploma and that really discouraged me.

My goals are to go back to school and obtain a high school diploma or a GED so one day in the future I can go to college. I want to apply to The Fortune Society Program so I can complete their OSHA 30 class and get my GED.

I need a laptop in order to sit through The Fortune Society two week mandatory online training sessions Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 the Libraries are only allowing people to print or check out and there is no sitting allowed. Also, since this pandemic I haven't been working much so my funds are really low and I can't afford to purchase a laptop on my own. It is very hard to complete these sessions on my phone.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be able to further my education. It will let me be able to complete all of my training's in the comfort of my own home during this time.

I am the Probation Officer of Sergio. I have seen his desire to grow and better himself for the past couple of months. He is so eager to further his education. Therefore, this need of a laptop will benefit him not only with his education but with his legal obligations.
