We have exciting news about Federica! Mar 18, 2014

We just heard from Jane Addams Resource Corporation that Federica is now "employed and doing great. She uses this gear on a daily basis at work!"

An enormous thank you to everyone who helped make this happen for Federica and her family!

Overview

I need Welding Gear and Prescription Welding Safety Glasses to increase my chances of employment and promotion. This includes Steel Toed Boots, Prescription Safety Glasses and an Eye Exam, Dimensional Precision Instruments, Welding Helmet and if money left over Welding Jacket and Gloves

I need Dimensional Instruments in my job because every day I have to borrow from someone else. Also, having a welding helmet will be very helpful because I don't have my own and often the helmets in our training are used by many students and don't work properly sometimes.

Meeting this need will help me because it will be helpful in my current job and in my job search. This gear will help me to be more marketable for my future career. I also have not had an eye exam since 2009 because I don't have eye insurance. I have been using my old glasses since then and having a new prescription and safety glasses would be wonderful.

My current situation is that I work full time in a manufacturing company, I have worked in manufacturing for 17 years. I also attend welding classes part time at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. I am taking welding classes to build my skills and make myself more employable and marketable. I drive 80 miles every day to my job and 3 days a week to school. I enjoy my current job however sometimes the paychecks bounce and I need to find a stable job that has reliable cash flow.

Right now, my biggest challenge is that I am the head of household. I married my husband in 1997. Two months after I married, my husband lost his kidneys. My elderly parents also live with us and I am their caretaker.

I am the kind of person that believes that parents must teach our children the importance of education. And even though I am the only one who works in my home, I have been feeding my kids with my work and without ever getting public assistance.

I think of myself mostly as a strong person because I want to be an example for my kids. Something interesting about me is that I am always looking for new skills to learn.

I'm most proud of that even in my situation, I have never been on any public benefits. It is very important for me to work and to teach my children to go to school and work so they do not have to rely on anyone else.

I've worked at jobs including Laborer and NDT Technician.

I have known Federica since February 2013 when she first enrolled into the Women in Manufacturing Program at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. I think meeting Federica's need is important because Federica is the sole supporter of her entire family. She is a very hard worker- working a full time job, driving 80 miles a day roundtrip to work and then driving to school at JARC which is 15 miles from her home. Federica is determined to gain as many skills and knowledge as possible. She will do whatever it takes to support her family.

This will move the Federica's life forward by assisting Federica with welding gear, steel toed boots, an eye exam and prescription eye glasses. Federica needs this gear and often her money goes to her family and not to herself. This gear would really help make her more marketable to future positions.

Federica has worked at only 3 companies in the last 17 years, all in manufacturing. She has always taken advantage of on the job training at work when it is available. In the past two jobs that Federica has had, she has not been late ONCE! That is over the span of 11 years. Federica has often won awards at work due to audit abilities and her punctuality. She is an incredibly strong and determined woman!
