Rodney from Charlotte, NC

I'm a student at Strayer Univ. I need help with class fees for my BA in Business Administration.

I'm on a payment plan but I need help with 1/2 the class fee. When I pass, I'll qualify for financial aid for the rest of my classes toward my BA.

Overview

My goal is to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and to secure consistent employment upon graduation. I really feel that having an education will help me feel capable of making better choices, feel proud of myself, support my family, and allow me to encourage my nieces and nephews to follow the same path that I am now working toward.

The financial aid office has offered to give me a 6 month payment plan to help me begin paying for the class. I can pay for half of the fee for the class, but I need a larger sum to begin the payment plan process.

Meeting this need will help me because I will be given a second chance to pass this finance class. My personal finances are at a point where I cannot put together as much money at one time as they would need me to in order to begin taking classes again. Once I receive a grade of C or better in this course, my financial aid will be reinstated, and I will be back on the path to obtaining my education.

I need a source of financial assistance so that I can get back to focusing on my education and finding stability. I'm enrolled at Strayer University, but my financial aid was recently cut from one of my necessary finance classes because I did not pass it the first time. This means that I have to pay for the class out of pocket, something I simply cannot afford to do right now.

* You may have noticed that Rodney's "Needed By" date has changed. In the spirit of the holiday season, Benevolent has extended all December dates through the first of the year.

I'm from Rock Hill, South Carolina and I've been here in Charlotte for over 20 years.  I started living with my sister this year. Something interesting about me is I like to help people, and I like to eat good food. I'm happiest when I wake up in the morning, happiest to see another day every day. I'm most proud of going back to school. I have 3 sisters and come from a single parent home. I have a wonderful, loving mother and many nieces and nephews whom I love very much. I've made some bad decisions in my life, but I'm making an honest effort to become more responsible which is why I'm going back to school. And, hopefully one day, this will enable me to give back more as well.

We met when Rodney was referred to us by a friend. He has always been very nice to everyone he interacts with, and he has a very cheerful way about him. We've spoken many times, and I always enjoy it when he comes by the office.

I think meeting this need is important because Rodney is exactly who Benevolent was made to support. He is a sum of money away from the happiness, stability, and positivity that an education can bring. Once he gets back on financial aid, he is going to really excel in all of his classes. The financial and personal struggles in his life are much more than any student should have to put up with and the fulfillment of this need will alleviate all that stress. He is only a few steps away from his life-long dream, something that many of us take for granted.

I know Rodney's story isn't the happiest one in the world, but I also know that he has turned things around with a passion for life that few people have. He has nieces and nephews who really look up to him and a mother who invested everything in her kids while raising them by herself. I know he cannot wait to make them proud!
