Catherine from Chicago, IL

I'm a single mother of 3, and I need gear and transportation to launch my career

I'm in training to be a CNC machinist and need safety gear (like steel-toed boots), an eye exam, and train passes to qualify for jobs and get started.

Catherine was on NATIONAL television! Feb 4, 2014

Catherine was interviewed by HLN over the holidays as part of December's Benevolent feature!

Thanks again to everyone who helped Catherine get the manufacturing gear she needed to start work! The way YOU give is transforming.

BIG NEWS for Catherine! Jan 23, 2014

Catherine's validator, Emily, shared an exciting update from Catherine:

Catherine started her first job in manufacturing today! She is so grateful for this resource available to her and for all the generous people out there who helped make this happen for her. Her job said she needed to come to her first day ready to work and that means having steel toed boots. We were able to purchase these for her through the Benevolent Fund. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Congratulations, Catherine! And THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this happen.

Catherine sends us an update: Dec 12, 2013

I am about to complete my CNC training program at JARC. I have also been nominated for a leadership position as Shift Manager in the training program. I am responsible for the training of fellow students and making sure tools and the machines are up kept. I really enjoy helping and guiding my fellow students through the program. I am also job searching daily and hope to start interviewing soon.

I need steel-toed boots, CNC gear (Precision Measuring Tools), an eye exam, and two Metra passes (for until I get my first paycheck).

Meeting this need will help me because it would mean the world to me to be able to provide for my family and be able to take pride in my work and the life I am living today. With this gear I would be better prepared for employment and be moving towards a home for my family. The first steps to security and happiness for us.

I am grateful for all support.

My current situation is I am a single mother of three living with a family member. I need help funding my gear and transportation to and from work so that I can provide for our basic needs and have a home of our own.

* You may have noticed that Catherine's "Needed By" date has changed. In the spirit of the holiday season, Benevolent has extended all December dates through the first of the year.

I have three children and two grandchildren. It's extremely important for me to be able to provide for them. We are trying to rebuild our lives and have a home together. I am completing my training and getting a job in the CNC field is going to help me achieve that.

I currently live in Chicago though I'm from Tennessee.

Something interesting about me is I enjoy learning and I'm most proud of my determination to succeed! I have learned to crochet, knit, and make jewelry. I am discovering that I have talents! I'm happiest when I feel that I am moving forward to meeting my goals.

We met when Catherine enrolled in JARC's CNC training program this past July.

I think meeting this need is important because Catherine has come so far and she is so close to reaching some of her biggest goals. She has done so much rebuilding and repairing that this extra push really will make a big difference.
